An independent standard-setter for investment where conflict risks are material
Finance for Peace sets the independent Standards, designed to uncover and reduce conflict risks, benefitting communities and making investments more attractive and likely to succeed.
What it is
Finance for Peace is an independent, not-for-profit standard-setter with a new framework for peace-aligned investment. It sets the independent Standards, designed to uncover and reduce conflict risks, benefitting communities and making investments more attractive and likely to succeed. Its purpose is to build a market where conflict risk reduction creates positive impact for communities, while improving the risk-adjusted return of the investment.
What it does
Finance for Peace has two functions. It sets reliable Standards and it builds the market. The Standards Committee sets the Finance for Peace Standards in cooperation with market participants and the peacebuilding community: checks that suitable peace measures are built in, designed to reduce conflict risks, and ensures that an independent verifier checks each year that these measures are delivered. Through its Market Network it brings project owners, issuers, investors, peace experts, governments, and local partners together to put the Standards to work in real transactions.
What it enables
Many investments are not designed with the people around them in mind. That can overlook and even create conflict risks for communities, and through them for the project: delays, disputes, lost value and lost reputation. Peace measures are practical, targeted actions that reduce these conflict risks. The Peace Stamp requires that suitable measures for a project’s conflict risks are built in, funded, monitored and independently checked. Finance for Peace is building the foundations for a multi-trillion-dollar market of peace-aligned investments, from Peace Bonds to equity, that carry this Peace Stamp. Our long-term ambition is for peace measures to become an established feature of mainstream investment.
