For peace experts and project partners

Making local agency and peace expertise an asset for every investment

Peace finance creates a new, market-based role for peacebuilding expertise and local agency. The work is valued in investment decisions, funded within projects and shaped together with investors and communities.

A new funding model

A steadier source of demand for peacebuilding work

Certified investments work with qualified peace experts to analyse the context, design peace measures and support delivery, and independent verifiers check them every year. These roles are paid from within the project rather than by donors, as part of peace measures that typically cost 0.2–3% of total project cost. Demand for this expertise can grow with the market instead of depending on aid budgets.

Aligned incentives

Expertise that informs investment decisions

Investors often lack reliable information on local conditions and price the risk accordingly. Peace experts and local partners know who holds influence, where grievances lie and what makes a project accepted. With peace finance, that knowledge shapes where and how capital is invested, from the start. What is good for the community becomes good for the investment, aligning the incentives of investors, project owners and the people around a project.

Impact outcomes

Development outcomes that count alongside financial returns

Impact outcomes are agreed up front and tracked over the life of the project. They cover peace and stability as well as clean energy, water, health, education, decent jobs and opportunities for local businesses. This makes the private sector a new partner for peace experts in achieving these outcomes, alongside donors and governments.

How to work with us

Local organisations and peace experts can take a formal role inside a certified transaction, or join the project owners, issuers and investors preparing them through the Market Network.

About the Market Network

Support live transactions

Work with the project owner to conduct a feasibility study, analyse the context, design the peace plan and involve the communities affected, and stay involved to help implement peace measures during project execution.

Become a verifier

Check independently each year how the peace measures have been implemented, and issue the verification statement the Standards Committee relies on.

Share what you know

Share relevant information with other Market Network members, so that project owners, issuers and investors can draw on local knowledge before a project’s design is fixed.

Propose a project

Peace experts can be project owners too. If you have done a feasibility study or needs assessment and want to turn it into an investable project, bring it to us and we will help you take the next step.

Where to start

Become a recognised peace expert or verifier, or share what you know with the project owners, issuers and investors preparing transactions. Get in touch or join the Market Network.
